Refugee Festival Scotland 2024: RISE
Published on 29-Nov-2023
Refugee Festival Scotland 2024 will run from 14th-23rd June! Our theme for this new festival edition is RISE.
Thousands of people arrive in Scotland every year after being forced to abandon their homes and flee to safety. We see individuals rise every day to build new lives and pursue new livelihoods, despite facing many challenges and deep uncertainty. Packed with unique events and exceptional talent, the festival honours the resilience and courage of New Scots and celebrates a vision for a Scotland where everyone can blossom and has equal opportunity to thrive.
Thriving is sustained by strength in community and being there for one another when things are difficult. Our festival spotlights the caring, creative and diverse community spaces where integration happens, as communities rise together to welcome new neighbours and flourish from their arrival.
Rising is also about being able to rise again after falling, and not giving up on bringing about change, healing and renewal. It means rising above hostile narratives and bringing others with you to realize a more joyful, inclusive society where everyone belongs, finds mutual support, and has a voice.
We can’t wait to see the many ways in which groups, organisations, artists, activists and others respond to this year’s theme.
By sharing in the festival’s celebrations, we invite everyone to rise together and join in for a movement of welcome, friendship and solidarity.
Event registration guidelines and opportunities for calls, funding and more will be posted from January! Please sign up for our newsletter below to receive all upcoming updates.
