Get ready for Refugee Festival Scotland!

Published on 31-May-2023

Can you believe it’s the 1st of June? This can only mean one thing – Refugee Festival Scotland is almost here! This is a festival for everyone and will run from 16-25 June with more than 100 events taking place across Scotland.

If you’re looking for a great start to your Summer, be sure to check out the ‘what’s on’ section of this site and plan your festival experience. There are events for everyone of all ages, from music and dance to food, art, and film.

Refugee Festival Scotland is a great opportunity to learn more about each other, to celebrate the contributions of refugees in Scotland, and to hope for a better future together.

One of the many events taking place during the festival is Paisley Conversations, an art installation that seeks to enhance understanding and connections between communities in Renfrewshire

The interactive exhibition, which will be on display from 21-23 June, showcases the work of New Scots from the Sewing2gether All Nations community group. Members of the group joined us in Paisley recently to help launch the Refugee Festival Scotland summer programme of events. (pictured)

Razieh, the artist who developed the Paisley Conversations exhibition, explains:

“When asylum seekers arrive in a new country, they need to have some support such as food, clothes, home facilities, learning a new language and the important one is mental health and wellbeing. Most of the asylum seekers and refugees do not have any family in the new country, therefore being a member of a group such as Sewing2gether All Nations can help them to find some friends the same as their families, because they can be together in every situation.”

We hope to see you at Refugee Festival Scotland this June!
