The bells of the Old Steeple are rung half muffled from 1.30 – 2.30pm in respect of, and empathy with, refugees. This is an opportunity to be quiet and reflect on refugees throughout the world, with the help of interactive resources.
From 2.30 – 4pm, Symphony No 3 Op 3 (Symphony of Sorrowful Songs) by Henryk Gorecki will be played in the church. This symphony by the Polish born Gorecki is in three movements, each reflecting separation between family members. Family separation affects many of today’s refugee families, and the music is intended to be a reflection in sound of the pain and anguish this causes.
