Talk/Workshop

This event aims to bring together individuals working with asylum seekers and refugees, featuring speakers from various organisations with different areas of expertise to share their work, experiences, and resources.

Our goal is to create an environment in Glasgow City where all partners are well informed about each other’s activities to ensure holistic support for refugees and asylum seekers. There will be speakers from:

– Scottish Refugee Council: An overview of the Scottish Refugee Council and our work. A summary of the UK asylum system and what rights, entitlements, and support people can access. The presentation will also highlight some of the common barriers people face and the impact this can have. This is an opportunity to start considering the ways you already, and could continue to, support refugees in the healthcare context.

– Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership Health Improvement Team: Information on how the NHSGGC Interpreting Service enables patients to book appointments, discuss medical needs, and access healthcare through free, on-demand interpreting via phone or mobile app.

– Asylum and Refugee Health Team: An overview of the homelessness process in Glasgow, highlighting support for homeless refugees, key charities and partner organisations, and the wider challenges of homelessness and the housing crisis in the city.

– Glasgow Psychological Trauma Service: A presentation on the Scottish Refugee Festival theme of Milestones on what milestones mean in people’s lives and how these can be supported and celebrated.

Glasgow City is home to the majority of Scotland’s New Scots and supporting services. There is a workforce of dedicated people across organisations and sectors who run welcoming and caring services to support people as they live though the challenges of the UK Asylum System. The event aims to put a spotlight on current services available in Glasgow City with provision to encourage collaboration and partnership working.
