Activism/Campaigning Film Talk/Workshop

This documentary looks at the mistranslation of female immigrants and the irreversible consequences that it can have on them. ‘Surviving Translation’ focuses on women who have lived through traumatic experiences such as gender-based violence in their home countries or during their difficult journeys to the UK. Unable to be truly heard or understood, these women find themselves without a voice or even an identity. The film aims to give some of these individuals a voice and reveal the human beings who are caught up in these events.

After the screening there will be a discussion with the contributors, filmmakers and language professionals around the topic of mistranslation / misinterpretation of refugees – an opportunity for the audience to ask questions and express their views on this topic.

Please email Marie Trestrail M.V.Trestrail@sms.ed.ac.uk about free tickets.
