Shared Tables is a community-led storytelling and cultural exchange photography project that centres on food as a powerful carrier of memory, identity, and belonging. This project invites mostly asylum seekers and refugees living in Glasgow hotels, from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, to share everyday food from their cultures by cooking dishes that reflect their personal stories and journeys.
Participants will be provided with all the ingredients they need, as well as a safe and welcoming cooking space. As they prepare their dishes, they will be photographed and invited to share stories connected to the food — memories of home, family traditions, survival, loss, hope, and life in Scotland today.
These stories and portraits will be displayed during Refugee Festival Scotland Week, creating a living exhibition that celebrates resilience and cultural richness.
From 13–17 June, the Shared Tables exhibition will be hosted at Coffee and Zikr, Rumi’s Cave, from 12:00pm–4:00pm each day.
From 18–20 June, the exhibition will move to the Crypt Café at Wellington Church, where it will be open from 9:30am–5:00pm each day.
On 20 June, we will also celebrate the final day of the exhibition with a special gathering at the Crypt Café. Please join us as we celebrate culture, community and storytelling.
