Heritage Music/Dance/Theatre Talk/Workshop

In this workshop, musician and educator Tawona Sitholé will teach you about the history and cultural significance of the mbira. The mbira, included in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list, is a musical instrument from Zimbabwe made up of metal keys fixed to a wooden soundboard. Songs are not written down, but are passed on from person to person by ear. This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners with no background in music. By the end of the session, you will be able to play your first mbira song.

The workshop will be held at the University of Glasgow’s Peace Garden. If the weather is bad, this will be moved indoors.
