Activism/Campaigning Community Celebration Talk/Workshop

This one-day participatory workshop brings together members of Scottish-based NGOs, community groups, and organisations led by and working with migrant and refugee communities. Held during Refugee Week, the event explores how human rights approaches can support and empower displaced individuals. Speakers include Suzanne Hoff (La Strada International), Heather Komenda (IOM), Kiril Sharapov and Frederik Byrn Køhlert (Edinburgh Napier University). Filmmaker Brook Woldu will present and discuss two participatory documentaries on refugee experiences in the UK. The day includes interactive discussions and arts-based activities such as a photo and object collage, a “memory and hope tree,” and a comics-making session on migration.

All participants are expected to take part in the activities and bring a personal item representing their experience or work in displacement contexts. No creative experience is needed.

The workshop is free to attend, but open only to members of Scottish NGOs working with and led by refugee and migrant communities.
