Description: Sara, runs a small cafe at the State Garden site for internally displaced people (IDP) in Malakal, Upper Nile State, where she sells tea, coffee and snacks. Sara is one of more than 500,000 people, mostly South Sudanese returnees, who have crossed the border into South Sudan to escape the conflict in Sudan which erupted in April 2023. The small cafe supplements the assistance that Sara and other IDPs receive. Although her business is fairly new, Sara hopes to expand it in the near future.
