Cultural Journeys
15:00 - 16:30
By Glasgow Alevi Cultural Centre and Cemevi
Come along for an afternoon of Anatolian Baglama music performed by young members of the community, and traditional dance called Semah. Join the discussion about Alevism and what it means.
Glasgow Alevi Cultural Centre and Cemevi are an ethnic minority originated from Turkey called Alevi. They are a community centre group who share a range of activities, classes and specialist sessions within our community centre, such as music and theatre classes. The community centre is open for anyone from any background, and they host events on special days according to the Turkish calendar. Every Sunday they cook a meal for the community which everyone contributes to. They have traditional Turkish instrument lessons called Baglama on Wednesdays and Sundays for ages 8 to 20 years old.
