Csángó Táncház (Transylvanian Ceilidh) & Romane Cierhenia
20:00 - 23:00
By Ando Glaso
An exciting evening of Gypsy music and Transylvanian dances. A family of outstanding Roma musicians, Romane Cierhenia will perform fiery Gypsy music from Poland to start off the evening followed by an exotic ceilidh of Transylvanian dances from the Csángó tradition. These ancient dances are very unique as unlike most of the dances from Transylvania, Csángó dances are danced in bigger groups and easy to join, similar to the Breton Fest Noz traditions. The style of music is also an interesting mixture of Hungarian, Gypsy, Romanian, etc styles.
Dance callers from the Glasgow University’s Hungarian dance group will help you to quickly learn the steps and live music will be provided by Roma musicians from Transylvania. Join us to experience how ceilidhs are done in Transylvania! Romane Cierhenia will also perform as part of Refugee Festival Scotland Opening Day.
