Community spotlight: family fun day in Dundee

Join ScrapAntics to celebrate 10 years of creativity and community at their family fun day in Dundee.

ScrapAntics invites communities in Dundee to join them on 21 June for a free Family Fun Day at the Wellgate Centre, celebrating the creativity and contributions that New Scots bring to the city and to Scotland. The event is open to everyone and offers a welcoming space to try fun activities, meet people and enjoy time together.

The group are also hosting a football tournament for refugees and people seeking asylum on Friday 12 June, with spectators encouraged to come along and support the teams.

Both events reflect what ScrapAntics stands for, and this year feels especially significant as the organisation marks its tenth anniversary during Refugee Festival Scotland.

ScrapAntics is a community group in Dundee that loves helping people get creative. They take materials that would normally be thrown away and turn them into fun, useful things through workshops, projects and events. They work with families, young people, schools and local groups, giving everyone a chance to make something, learn something and feel part of the community.

At its heart, ScrapAntics is about people coming together, trying new ideas and showing that creativity doesn’t need to be expensive.

Neil Crutchley from ScrapAntics told us:

“Our Family Fun Day means a lot to us. It has grown into something people look forward to all year. More than ever before New Scots are helping us deliver the event, including leading football, storytelling, science and creative workshops and bringing their own skills, passions and histories to the day.

“We have always believed that creativity and fairness go hand in hand. Our aim is to bring New Scots and Scots together in everything we do and our events and activities all help people meet, build friendships and challenge misconceptions. A smile and a hello can change someone’s day and we never forget that.”
