Kites have long been a symbol of freedom and cultural expression across the world, and there are few better ways to bring a community together than flying them side by side.
This June, Rainbow Muslim Women Group invites you to do exactly that. Join them at Bo’ness Foreshore on Saturday 20 June for an afternoon of kite flying, food and community gathering as part of the Refugee Festival Scotland programme. A joyful, open-air celebration welcoming people of all ages and backgrounds to come together in a spirit of friendship, solidarity and shared joy.
The group is also holding a second event – a family art workshop with D2 The Creative Centre in Larbert, on Saturday 13 at 10.30-12.20. Open to all ages.
Rainbow Muslim Women Group is a charity based in Falkirk, dedicated to empowering vulnerable individuals across the Forth Valley through education, social inclusion, and community support.
On behalf of the group, Sarah Cameron shares more about their work:
“The group has been active in Falkirk for more than twenty years, working to support an under-represented section of the community.
“Regular activities include games sessions for children, yoga, Zumba, cooking sessions and outdoor work with a conservation charity, alongside fundraising for those in need overseas and cultural celebrations for the whole town.
“We have been flying kites for the past two years at Bo’ness with the Kite Club of Scotland. Sharing the simple joy of sending a homemade kite high into the air is a thing of peace and beauty.
“Our kite-flying event during the festival hopes to bring people together – community does not have to be complex or difficult.”
