What’s On: Thursday 20 June

This World Refugee Day, we’re looking forward to celebrating Refugee Festival Scotland with communities across the country.

More than 30 events and exhibitions will take place all over Scotland – from Aberdeen, Dalgety, Dumfries and Dunoon to Inverness, Glasgow, Paisley and Perth. Here are a few highlights.

1. Rising Up Together

When: 20 June, 10am-5pm

Where: CCA, Glasgow

Everyone is welcome at our World Refugee Day celebration in Glasgow. The packed programme of activities includes arts and crafts, storytelling, campaigning, music-making and more. There will also be stalls run by artists, activists and organisations that support local communities.

2. Refugee Festival at V&A Dundee

When: 20 June, 10am-5pm

Where: V&A Dundee

Head over to the V&A for a range of exhibitions and hands on workshops that celebrate the resilience, creativity and spirit of unity that define the refugee experience.

3. Music in Dunoon

When: 20 June, 12-4pm

Where: Dunoon Burgh Hall

Join Music Broth to catch some incredible performances and have-a-go sessions to celebrate World Refugee Day. Check out Scotland’s Loudest Library, take part in a ukulele workshop, learn to play a djembe drum and hear the incredible singer, songwriter and rapper, Eyve perform live.

4. Nezouh – film screening

When: 20 June, 12.30-2.30pm

Where: Kelvin Hall lecture theatre, Glasgow

Head over to Kelvin Hall for a free screening of this unexpectedly hilarious and touching coming of age film set amidst the Syrian war in Damascus.

5. Sound of Refugee Voice on Radio Buena Vida

When: 20 June, 1-2pm

Where: online

The Award-winning Sound of Refugee Voices is back to celebrate World Refugee Day! Tune in for this live radio show packed with music, stories and chat around the theme of Rise.

6. Harmony in Diversity

When: 20 June, 2-5pm

Where: Cranhill Development Trust, Glasgow

This warm and inclusive family-friendly picnic aims to connect the various threads of art, culture and resilience within the local refugee and asylum-seeking communities. Come along to enjoy great music, good vibes and the chance to build bridges that go beyond borders.

7. Roots of Refuge

Where: The Hidden Gardens, Glasgow

Join JustRight Scotland and friends for an afternoon of live music and entertainment, art exhibitions, interactive games and delicious food – as well as stalls promoting the work of organisations that support refugees and asylum seekers across the country.

8. Kairos Refugee Festival Celebration

When: 20 June, 6-8pm

Where: The Hub, Paisley

Kairos Kitchen are celebrating the resilience of refugees in Renfrewshire with a jam-packed eventing of food, film and conversation at Paisley’s Mile End Mill.

Where: Springburn College, Glasgow

The Last Train community project invites you to join them for a celebration of the rich diversity of nations who ow call Springburn home. Expect film, music, dance and food.
