What’s On: Monday 17 June

Monday is another busy day at Refugee Festival Scotland. Here are seven events we’re looking forward to…

1. Building Peace Together

When: 17 June, 9.30am-3.30pm

Where: Dalgety Parish Church, Dalgety Bay

Head over to Fife to catch this exhibition of photos taken by members of Dalgety Parish Church’s Ukrainian Group. You can also walk a Peace Labryinth and light a candle to add to a peace cairn.

2. Rise

When: 17 June, 10am-12 noon and 1-4pm

Where: The Press, Dumfries

This exhibition features creative writing and art installations produced by refugees and people seeking asylum in the local community. Rise celebrates cultural diversity and offers a personal and collective reflection on the journeys of its participants.

3. Rising up in Angus – піднімаючись в Ангусі

When: 17 June, 11am-3pm

Where: V&A Dundee

Two artists from refugee backgrounds who are now living in Arbroath and Montrose will lead a creative community session, incorporating single words into a collective artwork. The finished piece will take the form of a tree and on each branch will be a word that describes their journey to Angus.

4. Communities Rise with Refugees – المجتمعات ترتفع مع اللاجئين

When: June 17, 12-4pm

Where: Kinning Park Complex, Glasgow

A fun-filled, family-friendly community celebration of the many cultures that make Kinning Park community so great. The afternoon will include music, games and food from around the world.

5. You, Me and a Game of Sport

When: 17 June, 2-5pm

Where: Get Active @ Kincorth, Aberdeen

Join Aberdeen Interfaith for the chance to make some new friends, try some sports and take a moment to de-stress and relax. Everyone is welcome.

6. Still, We Rise

When: June 17, 5.30-8.30pm

Where: Maryhill Community Centre, Glasgow

Maryhill Integration Network invite you to celebrate community resilience and rising together to overcome challenges. Expect music and poetry, face painting and Henna artistry, fun activities for children and delicious Persian food.

7. Limbo – film screening

When: 17 June, 7pm-8.30pm

Where: Eden Court Theatre, Inverness

A free screening of the award-winning comedy-drama about a talented young Syrian musician stuck in limbo on a fictional Scottish island while he waits for his asylum claim to be processed.
