Refugee Festival Scotland Media Awards open for entries

The Refugee Festival Scotland Media Awards 2024 are now open for entries.

Help us reward responsible journalism on refugee issues in Scotland.

Words matter. We’ve seen how negative media stereotypes and polarising language can stir up fear and division in our communities.

That’s why we’ve teamed up with the National Union of Journalists Scotland to host the Refugee Festival Scotland Media Awards 2024.

Journalists play an important role in building empathy and understanding around forced migration and giving people with lived experience a voice. Our awards celebrate people who do that job well.

Help us reward excellent reporting on refugee and asylum issues by nominating journalists who handle stories with fairness, accuracy and sensitivity.

This year there are five categories:

  • Written news: a print, online or multimedia news report on a current or breaking news story
  • Features: a written newspaper, magazine or multimedia piece that creatively explores refugee issues
  • Broadcast: a piece of filmed news or reporting on tv or online
  • Radio: news reports, full-length radio documentaries r excerpts from a magazine programme
  • Local media: this category covers local and regional Scottish media and includes print, online and broadcast

The deadline for submissions is Monday, 13 May.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Glasgow on Thursday, 13 June.
