Volunteers make Refugee Festival Scotland!

Refugee Festival Scotland would not be possible without the support of our volunteers. We have a team of wonderful people who freely give their time to represent the festival at local events, as well as write blogs and photograph the celebrations to spread our positive and hopeful messages far and wide.

We want to introduce you to some of the volunteers supporting us throughout the festival this year. First up is Fionn and Polina who are two of our talented volunteer photographers that’ll be taking pictures a community events across the country!

Meet Fionn

Fionn is a recent graduate of Aberdeen University and is volunteering with Refugee Festival Scotland for the first time. He explains that he was inspired to volunteer after completing his dissertation which focused on the role of community support groups in helping diasporic communities feel at home. He says “Everyone is entitled to feel safe and secure. I believe that it is the responsibility of those who are willing to help to create the conditions that make it possible for people to rebuild their lives in Scotland.”

Meet Polina

Polina is one of Scottish Refugee Council’s helpline advisers supporting refugees and people seeking asylum who are living in Scotland. She says that she decided to volunteer with Refugee Festival Scotland because it gives her the opportunity to interact with people from different cultures in person. She explains: “It will be incredible to see communities come together and appreciate the diverse art, music, and dance of refugees at this year’s Refugee Festival Scotland”

We are delighted to have Fionn and Polina as part of the Refugee Festival Scotland team.

A big high-five to all our Refugee Festival Scotland 2023 volunteers!
